Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a focus on proportion, symmetry, and classical architectural influences, transitioning from heavy walnut to lighter mahogany and oak woods.

Authentic period cupboards were constructed primarily using solid native timbers such as oak, mahogany, or pine, joined with traditional techniques like hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, and secured with forged iron or brass hardware.

Authenticity is identified through construction hallmarks such as hand-planed surfaces, irregular timber widths in backboards, wrought iron or early brass butterfly hinges, and period-appropriate locking mechanisms rather than modern machine-cut screws.

A traditional wooden corner cabinet can be integrated into a modern setting by using it to anchor an awkward empty corner, contrasting its dark wood grain against neutral lime-washed walls, and displaying minimalist ceramics inside to balance old and new elements.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood splitting, occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain, and avoiding silicone-based commercial polishes.
