Georgian silver wine funnels became popular in the 18th century as decanting instruments designed to separate aged vintage wines from sediment while aerating the liquid before serving.

These items are crafted from sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques such as raising, spinning, and soldering, often featuring detachable strainer bowls and hallmarks indicating maker and assay office.

Authentic pieces exhibit crisp maker marks, town marks, and standard sterling lion passant stamps corresponding to the late 18th or early 19th centuries, alongside hand-finished surface textures and period-appropriate weight.

This piece can be displayed on a sideboard top or within a drinks cabinet as a refined functional object, adding historical depth to contemporary dining spaces.

Preserve antique silver by storing it in a tarnish-resistant cloth, washing it gently with warm water and mild soap when necessary, and avoiding abrasive polishes that wear away historic hallmarks.
