Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This tall Art Deco bookcase from 1930 is constructed from light blonde wood veneer complemented by contrasting dark walnut trim at the top and the stepped plinth base. The tall rectangular carcass incorporates straight architectural lines, five open fixed shelves, and a concealed pullout drawer positioned in the base. Visible details include the prominent wood grain, a flat overhanging top edge, and a shaped decorative centre section to the plinth base. Measuring 154 cm high by 75.5 cm wide and 25.5 cm deep, the unit provides vertical storage while occupying a minimal floor footprint. This piece functions well in a living room, home office, or bedroom, standing against a wall to display books, framed photographs, or decorative items. The neutral blonde and dark brown timber tones coordinate easily with various interior colour schemes, while the slender proportions make the bookcase suitable for placement in compact spaces such as alcoves or narrow hallways. The open shelving design allows for easy access to stored items and visible organisation throughout daily use in a modern home.

FAQs

Art Deco bookcases feature clean geometric lines, bold architectural proportions, and a departure from heavy ornamentation. Designers emphasised sleek silhouettes, functional open or glass-fronted storage, and the dramatic application of contrasting wood veneers.

Craftsmen utilised dynamic timber contrasts, combining pale veneers such as satinwood, birch, or maple with rich, dark accents like walnut, ebony, or rosewood. Structural frames often featured layered plywood or solid hardwood bases with applied decorative veneers.

Authentic period pieces display period-appropriate joinery alongside aged timber patination. Look for geometric stepped bases, contrasting timber inlays, and signs of hand-finishing along internal shelf edges or back panels.

Position the unit against a neutral wall to highlight the contrasting wood tones, or place it within a minimalist setting as a focal architectural piece. Balance the shelves with curated ceramics, art books, and textured decorative objects alongside literature.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or uneven colour fading. Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
