Linen presses became prominent during the Georgian era as large-scale storage furniture designed primarily to store household linens flat before the widespread use of hanging wardrobes.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid timber frames with decorative veneers such as flame mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and traditional brass hardware.

Authentic pieces can be identified through construction details like hand-cut dovetailing, secondary timbers such as oak or pine in drawer linings, traditional patina, and period-appropriate joinery.

A statement antique piece provides architectural contrast and functional storage in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, pairing well with minimalist decor to highlight its natural wood grain.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding extreme temperature fluctuations, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood.
