FAQs

A plain stem ale flute is a slender drinking vessel characteristic of 18th-century English glass manufacture, specifically designed to serve ales and beers with a tall, tapering bowl.

These glasses were traditionally hand-blown using lead glass or soda-lime glass formulations, often featuring tool-formed stems and folded feet for stability.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the base, characteristic inclusions or bubbles within the metal of the glass, and hand-formed proportions consistent with period manufacturing methods.

Antique stemware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, utilized on open shelving as sculptural accents, or incorporated into table settings to add historical texture to modern schemes.

Antique glass should be washed gently by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials to protect the delicate surface.
