During the Georgian era, specialized fruit knives and forks were crafted for dessert courses, often featuring precious metals and organic handles to prevent the acid in citrus fruit from tarnishing standard steel cutlery.

These sets typically incorporated sterling silver blades and tines paired with handles carved from mother of pearl, ivory, or bone, often housed in protective leather-covered cases lined with velvet or silk.

Authentic pieces feature period hallmarks on the silver components, hand-engraved detailing, natural variations in the mother of pearl, and period-correct leather cases with fitted interiors.

These items are typically displayed within glass-topped table cases, shadow boxes, or specialized cabinet trays to showcase their craftsmanship while protecting them from environmental damage.

Silver components require periodic gentle cleaning with specialized non-abrasive polish, while mother of pearl must be kept away from harsh chemicals, extreme temperature fluctuations, and excessive moisture.
