FAQs

A French bedside cupboard, historically known as a commode de chevet, is a small cabinet designed to sit beside a bed for storing personal items, often featuring a marble top for durability.

These cabinets are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, pine, or walnut, and frequently topped with slabs of white or grey marble.

Authenticity is usually determined by period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original hardware, hand-mixed paints showing natural patina, and age-related wear.

Pairing the distressed painted finish and marble surface with modern minimalist lighting or neutral tones creates a balanced, layered interior aesthetic.

Clean the marble with a neutral, non-abrasive cleaner to prevent staining, and dust the painted wooden surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth while avoiding direct sunlight.
