Description

A smart and extremely well made antique Edwardian mahogany bookcase. This was made in England, it dates from around 1890-1910.

It is of superb quality, this has a panelled back and refined design. The base has two panelled doors and sits on bracket feet, the upper section has astral glazed doors with adjustable shelves inside. The top half lifts off the base for ease of transport, and the cornice can also be lifted off the top section.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is just some extremely minor wear remaining here and there beneath the polish, the mahogany has a beautiful colour tone and patina.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Edwardian furniture, spanning the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a revival of eighteenth-century neoclassical motifs.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised solid mahogany and satinwood, frequently incorporating crown glass panes and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces typically feature period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, and original glass with subtle imperfections.

Pairing dark wood antiques with neutral wall colours and contemporary minimalist seating creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich grain of the timber.

Maintain antique timber by avoiding direct sunlight, keeping relative humidity stable, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
