A cloverleaf ottoman is a low, upholstered seat characterised by its distinctive three-lobed or four-lobed curved shape, popular during the nineteenth century for drawing rooms and boudoirs.

These pieces typically feature a solid hardwood frame, such as walnut or mahogany, combined with traditional stuffing materials like horsehair, wool, and hessian webbing beneath the top upholstery.

Authentication involves examining the hand-turned timber legs, traditional joinery methods, handmade upholstery tacks, and the natural ageing of the wood and internal stuffing materials.

An antique cloverleaf stool works effectively as a central coffee table alternative, an occasional seat, or placed at the foot of a bed to introduce historical character and texture into a contemporary space.

Preservation requires keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking and fabric fading, alongside gentle vacuuming of the upholstery using a soft brush attachment.
