Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian string boxes were desktop or writing table accessories designed to hold balls of twine or string neatly, protecting the cord from fraying while allowing a continuous length to be pulled through a central aperture for parcel wrapping and correspondence.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as repousse, chasing, and casting, often incorporating fitted elements like matching scissors and internal spindles to secure the twine.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks stamped onto the silver components, including the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling standard, a city mark for the assay office, and a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such decorative objects work well when placed upon a modern home office desk, console table, or bookshelf, adding metallic texture and historical contrast to minimalist or transitional interior schemes.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialist non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish while preserving the original patina, avoiding harsh liquid dips that can damage intricate surface chasing.
