Description

A stunning antique Swedish inlaid satin birch cabinet, dating from the 1920’s.

This is of outstanding quality, it is beautifully made and is a very useful size. It is predominantly satin birch, the doors are walnut and have inlaid marquetry of various woods, depicting two classical characters that appears to be Adam and Eve eating from the tree of knowledge. The doors have keys and open to reveal two adjustable shelves that run across the whole interior.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb for its age. There are just a few minor marks here and there remaining beneath the polish.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These cabinets are characterised by meticulous marquetry, often featuring figural or geometric motifs crafted from contrasting timbers, reflecting Nordic craftsmanship and functional elegance.

Master craftsmen typically employed native Scandinavian woods such as birch, satin birch, and pine, utilising traditional joinery and hand-cut wood veneers to create intricate pictorial inlays.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut veneer work, the natural ageing and oxidisation of the timber, traditional dovetail joinery, and period-appropriate hardware.

Position the piece against a neutral wall to highlight the natural grain and intricate marquetry, allowing it to function as a focal point within a living space or dining room.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood.
