A dough bin, or kneading trough, is a traditional utilitarian piece of furniture used historically in domestic households and bakeries to mix and prove bread dough.

These pieces were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as elm, oak, or pine, featuring dovetailed or pegged joints and splayed turned legs designed to withstand the physical pressure of kneading.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-cut joinery, iron or wooden peg fasteners, and natural patina resulting from age and use rather than artificial distressing.

This type of furniture functions effectively as a console table in a hallway or living space, offering concealed storage while introducing rustic texture and historical character to modern rooms.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and occasionally treating the wood with traditional beeswax to nourish the surface without damaging the historic finish.
