Cut glass and crystal lighting gained significant popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian periods, evolving from traditional candle lustres into electrified table lamps as domestic electricity became common in the early 20th century.

Authentic period lamps are typically crafted from heavy pressed and hand-cut lead crystal or glass, often assembled with metal spigots, threaded rods, and brass components to secure the multi-tiered structure and pendent drops.

Authentication involves examining the glass for minor impurities, hand-cut facets with slight irregularities, wear to the polished base, period-appropriate wiring components, and old wire-tied crystal lustres rather than modern machine-stamped fixings.

These lamps add a layer of reflective sparkle and classical elegance, working effectively on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to create contrast against modern minimalist furniture or to complement traditional schemes.

Clean the glass components gently with a soft microfibre cloth and a mild solution of warm water and washing-up liquid, taking care to remove pendent drops individually for washing if necessary while avoiding harsh chemical abrasives on the metal fittings.
