A snuff mull is a traditional container used in Scotland for holding ground tobacco, known as snuff, typically crafted from animal horn mounted with precious metals during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These pieces traditionally combine natural animal horn or wood with hand-wrought sterling silver mounts, hinges, and engraved shields or lids.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate hand-engraving, traditional maker marks or silversmith punches where applicable, natural patination on the horn, and period mechanical hinge construction.

Such small collectable items are traditionally displayed on a desk, within a glass cabinet, or upon a mantelpiece as part of a curated display of curiosities.

Preservation requires storing pieces away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, using specialised silver polish with care to avoid contact with organic horn components.
