Victorian hip flasks gained immense popularity during the 19th century as portable containers for spirits, often used during hunting, travel, and outdoor sporting events by gentlemen.

These flasks were typically constructed from glass or metal interiors, often partially or fully encased in stitched leather, with sterling silver cups, caps, and mounts.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks stamped on the silver components indicating the assay office, date letter, and sterling standard, alongside traditional hand-stitched leather seams.

An antique hip flask can be displayed as part of a curated tablescape on a bar cart, bookshelf, or gentlemans study alongside vintage glassware and books.

Silver components require periodic polishing with a non-abrasive cloth to prevent tarnishing, while the leather casing should be treated with neutral leather conditioner to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking.
