Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century alongside the growing popularity of tea as a luxury commodity, evolving into highly decorative items by the Regency and Georgian periods used for measuring tea leaves from a caddy.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, hand-engraving, and chasing, often featuring intricate basketweave patterns or figural shapes.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, typically including the makers mark, town mark for assay offices such as Birmingham or London, standard mark, and a date letter indicating the year of manufacture.

These small collectors pieces are traditionally displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, silver display trays, or shadow boxes to highlight their intricate craftsmanship as part of a curated table setting display.

Antique silver should be washed infrequently using mild soap and warm water, dried thoroughly with a soft microfibre cloth, and polished sparingly with a non-abrasive silver cloth to preserve the original patina and hallmarks.
