Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A mule chest is a traditional form of storage furniture that evolved in 18th-century Britain by adding one or more drawers beneath a traditional blanket chest or coffer, bridging the design gap between simple boxes and full chests of drawers.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from native British timbers such as oak, elm, and occasionally pine, often featuring hand-carved panels, dovetail joints, and forged brass or iron hardware.

Authentic pieces can be identified by hand-cut dovetailing in the drawers, pegged mortise and tenon joints in the frame, natural timber shrinkage, tool marks, and appropriate patination and wear consistent with age.

An antique chest provides practical storage and warmth when placed against a plain wall, topped with minimalist ceramics or architectural lighting to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the wood, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
