The balustroid style is characterised by a slender stem that incorporates a baluster-like form or knop, sitting above a folded conical foot, which became prominent in British and European glassmaking during the early 18th century.

These pieces were typically crafted from heavy flint lead glass, which was prized for its clarity, refractive brilliance, and durability compared to contemporary soda glass.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic manufacturing traits such as pontil marks on the base, inclusions or tiny air bubbles within the metal, and wear consistent with age, alongside specific stem formations typical of the period.

Antique stemware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, utilized as single-stem flower holders on a mantelpiece, or incorporated into table settings to add historical texture and reflective quality to modern spaces.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials, and dried thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
