Victorian scent bottles often feature ornate metalwork, coloured glass such as amber or cranberry, and intricate hand-cut facets reflecting the periods taste for decorative vanity accessories.

These pieces typically combined blown or pressed glass bodies with mounts crafted from sterling silver, silver-gilt, or base metals, often featuring cork or glass stoppers.

Authenticity is assessed by examining silver hallmarks for date letters and makers marks, evaluating the hand-cut facets of the glass, and checking for period-appropriate wear and construction techniques.

Display the piece on a mirrored vanity tray, a dressing table, or a mantelpiece to catch the light, pairing it with other small curiosities for an curated aesthetic.

Clean the glass gently with a soft, damp cloth and avoid submerging silver mounts in harsh chemical dips to preserve the natural patina and any delicate engravings.
