FAQs

A George III linen press is a large storage cabinet produced during the reign of King George III, typically featuring upper doors enclosing sliding trays for folded textiles and lower drawers for garments.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often incorporating secondary softwoods like pine for internal drawer linings, and accented with brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawer construction, original brass handles or matching ghost marks, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and distinct hand-planed surfaces.

It can be integrated as a statement storage piece in a bedroom or hallway, allowing its rich timber grain and classic proportions to contrast against neutral wall colours.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight exposure, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished surface.
