Regency furniture, spanning the late 18th to early 19th century, is characterised by classical architectural motifs, influences from ancient Greece and Rome, and the prominent use of exotic veneers like rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinet makers typically used dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood over pine or oak carcases, frequently embellishing pieces with brass stringing, Ormolu mounts, and fine silk-backed grille doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina, hand-wrought iron or brass fixings, and secondary timbers consistent with the early 19th century.

This piece works well as a statement storage unit in a living room or study, contrasting sharply against minimalist walls or paired with mid-century and modern furnishings to create an eclectic, layered aesthetic.

Maintain antique rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon polishes.
