FAQs

Victorian silver candlesticks reflect the industrial advancements and revivalist design movements of the mid-to-late 19th century, incorporating classical motifs inspired by earlier periods.

These pieces are typically constructed from sterling silver, often weighted internally with resin, pitch, or loaded bases to provide stability, and manufactured using stamping and casting techniques.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a town mark indicating the assay office, and a date letter.

They can be used as centrepieces on dining tables, displayed on mantelpieces, or styled on sideboards to introduce reflective metallic textures and historical contrast to modern schemes.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials and harsh chemical dips to preserve the integrity of the metal and hallmarks.
