This Victorian antique garniture set comprises a central three-light candelabra flanked by a matching pair of single candlesticks, crafted from silver-plated metal with a bright silver finish. Dating from around 1880, the set exhibits elaborate decoration featuring heavily embossed foliate relief, scrolling arms on the central piece, and decorative acanthus leaves around the square bases and tapered columns. The pieces display crisp moulded detail throughout, with fluted candle nozzles and stepped plinths. Measuring 36 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 11 cm deep, this garniture is well-suited for display as a dining table centrepiece or on a sideboard in an English Country House setting. It provides an effective way to introduce period character and reflective metallic highlights to traditional living spaces or dining rooms.

FAQs

Victorian silver-plated candelabras were produced during the nineteenth century using electroplating techniques, allowing intricate classical and floral motifs to be applied over base metals like nickel silver.

These items typically feature a base metal core, such as nickel silver or copper, coated in a layer of pure silver via electroplating, often weighted at the base for stability.

Authentic pieces usually display makers marks or stamps such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver), along with characteristic nineteenth-century ornamentation and natural wear showing base metal beneath high points.

They serve as functional centrepieces on formal dining tables, balanced accents on a sideboard, or decorative additions to a fireplace mantelpiece.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, or dishwasher exposure to prevent stripping the plating.
