A deeply rounded bow, with the carcase swept like a barrel rather than simply curved across the door. The phrase turns up in a handful of titles. It sits within the wider bow-fronted group, which covers about a sixth of the archive.

Are most of these hanging or floor-standing?

Hanging and wall-mounted cupboards run to roughly a sixth of listings, with oak hanging examples the largest single cluster among them. Floor-standing pieces are fewer, under a tenth by title, and include two-part and full-height cabinets with a glazed or open upper stage.

Which woods were used?

Oak and mahogany between them account for two-thirds of all titles, which is why the plain Georgian oak cupboard is the shape most people picture. The rest spread widely: elm, ash, pine, fruitwood, cherry, yew, walnut, burr yew, satinwood, amboyna, kingwood, goncalo alves, rosewood and teak all appear.

How many corner cupboards come up for sale?

About 108 are listed a year on Sellingantiques, offered by 210 different dealers over the life of the archive. That spread means the form is stocked thinly by a great many dealers rather than being anyone's specialism.

Do Continental examples appear?

They do, but sparsely. Nineteen titles say Dutch, and single pieces run to Swedish, Danish, Italian, Spanish, French, Scandinavian, Austro-Hungarian, East German and Anglo-Indian. One Swedish cupboard carries a painted date of 1819. The great majority of the archive is English.

Why are so many just labelled Georgian?

Because that is how dealers file them. Georgian appears in the date field 368 times and 18th Century 211 times, each covering about a hundred years. Only 279 of the 1,140 listings give a clean year. Victorian, Edwardian and 1900s tags follow, with decade tags thin throughout.
