This late Victorian silver-plated tea kettle on stand sits on a tripod base with shell feet and dolphin mounts. The piece incorporates a bead-mounted base with a pierced surround, two security chains with pins, an original burner, a fixed overhead handle with ivory insulators, and a proud cone finial. The body displays geometric engraved panels, scrollwork, and beaded rims, finished in polished silver with ivory and bone elements. The maker's mark for Frederik Ellis Tim and Company of Sheffield is stamped underneath, and the item has been resilvered. It measures 43 cm tall. This piece works well placed on a sideboard top in an English country house setting for decorative display.

A Victorian spirit kettle, or tea kettle on stand, is a specialised hot water vessel mounted on an elevated framework equipped with a small spirit burner underneath to maintain temperature at the tea table.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or silver-plated copper, frequently incorporating heat-insulating bone, horn, or hardwood spacers within the handle to ensure safe handling.

Authentic late Victorian items generally display clear stamped maker marks, EPNS hallmarks, hand-engraved or bright-cut pattern work, and original fitting accessories such as securing pins and chains.

Place the kettle on a dining room sideboard, marble console table, or drinks trolley, pairing it with contemporary glassware or crisp linen to create a sophisticated focal point.

Wash gently with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, then polish carefully using a specialized silver cream to prevent tarnishing; avoid harsh chemical dips that can wear away the silver plating layer.
