Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver chests were heavy, metal-reinforced wooden trunks designed to secure household silver plate and family heirlooms during transit or storage. They were often custom-fitted with baize-lined interiors or removable trays to protect individual pieces from tarnishing and damage.

These chests were constructed from dense hardwoods, predominantly oak or mahogany, to handle heavy weights. External surfaces were reinforced with wrought iron or steel straps, corner brackets, and brass lock plates to provide structural integrity and security.

Authentic nineteenth-century silver chests display heavy iron or steel exterior strapping, corner brackets, and flush-mounted handles designed to bear high weight. They often feature an engraved brass brass plaque on the front or lid indicating the original owners name or crest.

A large wooden silver chest can serve as a functional coffee table, blanket box, or accent piece at the foot of a bed. Its rich wood tones and historic metalwork contrast well against modern minimalist walls, contemporary upholstery, and neutral wool rugs.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber. Iron fittings should be kept free of moisture, and a tiny amount of neutral mineral oil can be applied to prevent oxidisation on metal surfaces.
