Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 17th-century Britain, a court cupboard was a prestigious storage cabinet used in dining halls to display silverware and store valuable household goods. The term court comes from the French word for short, referring to the lower profile of early designs compared to tall wardrobes.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from solid native oak using traditional mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs. The decorative elements feature hand-planed fielded panels, hand-turned timber knobs, and hand-chiseled architectural motifs.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn tool marks on the interior and rear panels, slightly raised wooden pegs from centuries of timber shrinkage, uneven proportions from hand construction, and a rich surface patina built up over generations.

Anchor the piece as a focal point in a dining room, hallway, or living space by contrasting its dark timber against neutral, light-coloured walls. Style the top surface with minimal contemporary ceramics or modern brass lighting to balance historical character with modern design.

Maintain the timber by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the grain. Keep the cupboard away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood movement, warping, or cracking.
