Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Georgian secretaire bookcase is a multi-functional piece of furniture from the 18th or early 19th century featuring an upper glazed bookcase and a lower section with a pull-out drawer fitted with a writing surface and small compartments.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or feature mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like pine or oak, often accented with brass hardware, hand-blown crown glass, and fine stringing or inlay.

Authenticity is identified through period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, handmade glass with natural imperfections, original brass or bronze hardware, secondary timbers appropriate to the era, and signs of age-related wear and oxidisation.

This piece can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist seating, using the interior writing section as a functional home office hub, and styling the upper glass shelves with a curated collection of books or ceramics.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and treating the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
