A rummer is a large, sturdy drinking glass that became popular in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries, primarily used for serving wine, beer, or rum punch.

These pieces were traditionally hand-blown from lead glass or flint glass, often featuring heavy bases, faceted or fluted bowls, and sometimes wheel-engraved decoration.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the foot, subtle irregularities in the glass such as tiny air bubbles, and a characteristic heavy weight due to high lead content.

These traditional vessels can be displayed singly or in groups on open shelving, sideboards, or inside glass-fronted cabinets to add historical texture and classic elegance to a modern dining space.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in warm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing and sudden temperature changes to protect the delicate surface and prevent thermal shock.
