Circa 1790. A stylish and interesting George III oak and mahogany hinged top mule chest or kist. The rectangular kist with rained paneled oak top with reeded fore-edge, with broad mahogany crossbanding with a stylish ogee moulded fore-edge. The top is hinged and opens to reveal an uninterrupted interior, except for a small candle box, and the original blacksmith made strap hinges. Three panels in the front, each with mahogany banding and ribbed fore edge. The bottom with a pair of drawers with stylish escutcheons and brass swan neck handles, further mouldings, and the piece rests on four elegant ogee bracket feet.
