This George I stool dates from the eighteenth century, around 1730, and is made from dark brown walnut, textile, and brass. The rectangular seat has coral silk damask upholstery in red, secured around the border with brass studding. The construction incorporates four cabriole legs united by a turned H-stretcher, terminating in pad feet. The piece measures 45 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 44 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this walnut stool functions well in various interior settings, such as positioned at the foot of the bed or placed in a living area as extra seating. The combination of the dark timber framework and the patterned textile suits traditional English Country House aesthetics.

Produced between 1714 and 1727, George I walnut stools characteristically feature turned or cabriole legs, decorative stretchers, and rectangular upholstered seats designed for formal reception rooms.

Frameworks were constructed from solid walnut or walnut veneers over native hardwoods such as oak and beech, held together with mortise and tenon joinery and fitted with brass upholstery tacks.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn timber marks, natural dark oxidisation within the joints, evidence of historical hand-driven peg construction, and proportioned wear on the underside of the feet.

An antique stool functions effectively as occasional seating beside a hearth, positioned at the foot of a bed, or paired with a contemporary console table to provide visual texture.

Apply natural beeswax sparingly to the timber frame to preserve the patination, keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and vacuum the upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment.
