This Edwardian standard lamp dates from around 1900 and is made from polished brass with a bright, metallic gold tone. The design incorporates a telescopic central stem that allows for an adjustable height up to 142 cm, topped with a small turned finial. The upright column passes through a spherical collar and terminates in a decorative ball weight near the ground, supported by a three-legged tripod base. Each slender leg angles outwards and finishes in a flat pad foot designed to rest securely on the floor. Well suited for placement at the end of a sofa or in a gentleman's library corner, this floor lamp provides functional lighting while introducing a period aesthetic to living spaces. The gleaming brass construction reflects light effectively, while the adjustable mechanism allows the height to be altered according to room requirements and seating arrangements. It comes re-wired and tested, ready for integration into a domestic interior.

A telescopic standard lamp is a height-adjustable floor light popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, featuring an extending central stem that allows the height of the light source to be altered.

Antique standard lamps were typically cast from solid brass, bronze, or wrought iron, often featuring weighted bases and turned metal fittings to ensure stability and structural integrity.

Authentic Edwardian brass floor lamps feature heavy cast metal components, original screw-locking collar mechanisms for height adjustment, period surface patination, and signs of historical wiring or conversion from oil burners.

A brass standard lamp can be positioned beside an armchair to serve as a focused reading light, placed in a corner space to create ambient warmth, or combined with contemporary furnishings to add architectural interest.

Dust the metal surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip protective lacquers or patination, and ensure all electrical wiring is inspected by a qualified professional.
