This Art Nouveau period vase originates from Austria around 1900. The piece takes the form of a tapered cylindrical body executed in iridescent glass with a dappled gold finish, surmounted by an ornate sterling silver whiplash mount with organic foliate motifs. The glass exhibits a shimmering surface displaying soft pink, blue and golden undertones beneath the polished silver collar, which wraps symmetrically around the upper rim. Measuring 9 cm high, the vase is suited for display on a sideboard top in a contemporary interior, providing a decorative focal point for holding small floral arrangements or standing alone as an art glass display piece.

Art Nouveau glass is characterised by organic forms, iridescent surfaces, and naturalistic motifs inspired by flora and fluid movement, popularised between roughly 1890 and 1910.

The glass body was blown and treated with metallic vapors during heating to create an iridescent sheen, after which custom silver mounts or overlays were hand-fitted around the rim and body.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-blown characteristics such as polished pontil marks, soft oil-slick surface iridescence, period hallmarks on metal fittings, and refined whiplash design patterns typical of makers like Loetz.

Position the vase on a illuminated sideboard top or near a natural light source to highlight the metallic iridescence, keeping surrounding decor minimal to allow the glass texture to serve as a focal point.

Dust gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoid liquid submersion or harsh chemical cleaners, and clean silver mounts using a specialized silver cloth to prevent tarnish transfer to the glass.
