Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 18TH CENTURY:
Peened stem joint inside the base: assembly used before factory screw threads.
Broad file marks under the base: finished by hand on the bench.
Softened edges on the faceted column: gradual wear from centuries of polishing.
Dark oxidisation in the base recesses: natural age inside the casting.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

It provides functional illumination or decorative interest in a living room, hallway, or study.

FAQs

Georgian brass candlesticks, produced in England during the eighteenth century, are characterised by balanced proportions, cast construction, and classical features such as baluster stems and octagonal or stepped bases.

During the Georgian era, candlesticks were commonly cast in separate sectionsincluding the socket, stem, and baseusing molten brass alloys before being assembled and hand-finished on a lathe.

Authentic Georgian examples typically exhibit faint seam lines inside the socket from two-part moulds, hand-turned finishing marks, substantial physical weight, and natural surface wear on the underside of the base.

A Georgian brass candlestick can be positioned on a fireplace mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard alongside contemporary ceramics to create a balanced contrast between historic metalwork and modern decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical abrasives; mild metal polishes can be applied sparingly to reduce heavy tarnish while leaving historical patina intact.
