Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian copper lanterns were widely produced around the turn of the twentieth century for lighting domestic porches, hallways, and public thoroughfares. Initially designed to house gas burners or oil lamps, these fixtures transitioned into the electrical era while retaining classic architectural silhouettes.

These lanterns were constructed using hand-cut sheet copper joined by solder, along with clear glass panes to protect the illumination source from wind and weather. Copper was favoured for exterior use due to its high resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

Authentic pieces feature soldered copper seams, hand-turned copper finials, and naturally aged surface patination or verdigris. Original examples display minor irregularities from hand-assembly rather than uniform modern machine stampings.

Victorian lanterns can be re-wired to modern electrical standards and installed as hanging pendant lamps in an entrance hall, suspended over a kitchen island, or wall-mounted in an exterior portico to add historical depth.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and clean the glass panes using a mild glass cleaner applied directly to the cloth. Avoid harsh chemical metal polishes if the original aged surface patina and verdigris are to be preserved.
