Japanese Satsuma Vase By Kinkozan

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this finely decorated Meiji Period 1868-1912, Satsuma vase by the highly regarded Kinkozan workshop, the vase stands upon a triform base and is predominately finished in cobalt blue with fine gilding detail instantly recognisable as work from the Kinkozan studios, with one unusual feature being the moulded decoration to each of the shoulders. The main shaped cartouche is decorated with a pair of bijin in a garden setting , the pair sit chatting upon a daybed beneath prunus blossom trees amidst an abundance of flora, temples, pavilions and further characters can be seen in the distance, the reverse similarly shaped cartouche depicts birds in flight amidst wisteria and an abundance of native flora, a most charming vase that would grace any higher quality ceramic collection, finely signed Kinkozan in a gilt signature to the underside.
