Imari porcelain originates from the town of Arita in the Hizen province of Japan, exported extensively to Europe from the port of Imari during the Edo period, particularly in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Imari pieces are crafted from high-fired white porcelain clay, traditionally decorated underglaze with cobalt blue and overglaze with iron red, accented by generous applications of gilt detailing.

Authentic antique pieces display characteristic weight, hand-painted brushwork with slight imperfections, unglazed foot rims showing the body clay, and traditional floral or figural motifs consistent with historical Japanese periods.

These pieces can be mounted on walls using specialized plate hangers, displayed vertically on bookshelves, or showcased horizontally on dedicated stands within traditional or eclectic interior schemes.

Antique porcelain should be cleaned exclusively by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, or dishwashers to protect the delicate overglaze enamel and gilt decoration.
