Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian bookcases typically feature dark, dense timbers such as mahogany or walnut, robust proportions, and classical revival motifs influenced by Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo revivals.

They were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction and hand-blown cylinder glass in the doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, minor irregularities in the glass panes, traditional shellac or wax finishes, and natural age-related timber shrinkage rather than modern mechanical fixings.

Pair the dark wood tones with neutral walls, minimalist contemporary seating, and curated shelves featuring a mix of vintage books and modern decorative objects to balance traditional weight with contemporary lightness.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels between 40-50 percent, keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking, and occasionally apply a quality microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
