We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Old Sheffield Plate is a fused metal technique developed in the 18th century, involving a thin sheet of silver fused to a copper base, predominantly produced between the 1740s and the introduction of electroplating in the 1840s.

These items were crafted using the fusion process of layering sterling silver onto a heavy copper core, often featuring soldered handles and threaded or plugged filling holes for hot water.

Authenticity is identified by observing the characteristic copper edge bleed where the base metal shows through wear, the absence of electroplate marks, and hand-beaten or soldered construction details typical of the Georgian era.

These pieces can be displayed on sideboards or open shelving to introduce metallic warmth, contrasting against natural wood textures or modern minimalist surfaces.

Preservation requires gentle cleaning with non-abrasive silver polishes, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the thin silver layer, and storing them in low-humidity environments.
