Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wall sconces evolved from early torch and candle holders into sophisticated decorative fixtures during the 17th and 18th centuries in France. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Neoclassical and Rococo revival styles made heavy use of cast brass, incorporating classical figures, cherubs, and foliate motifs to frame mirrors and doorways.

Period wall lights are typically constructed from cast brass or gilt bronze (ormolu), often featuring chased detailing on the backplates and arms. Internal wiring or candle sockets were designed to integrate seamlessly into the metal armature.

Authentic pieces generally display signs of hand-finishing, seam lines from two-part casting molds, and natural oxidisation in recessed areas. Older fixtures may also feature original bayonet or Edison screw bulb holders made from brass and ceramic rather than modern plastics.

Brass wall sconces can be placed alongside artwork, positioned on either side of a chimneypiece, or mounted in hallway alcoves to add architectural structure and warm accent illumination to modern spaces.

Dust wall lights regularly using a soft, dry cloth or gentle brush to prevent buildup in detailed relief areas. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners, which can strip away original patination and gilt finishes.
