Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. This antique Afshar tribal rug originates from southwest Persia around 1900. The piece displays an all-wool construction finished with mellow natural dyes in peach and indigo, showcasing three central stylized floral medallions on a light peach field accompanied by intricate geometric borders and stylized leaves. Secured ends and sides frame the field alongside signs of minimal repairs consistent with careful maintenance. Measuring 165 cm high, 130 cm wide and 1 cm deep, the item functions as a decorative floor covering suited for living rooms, studies or bedrooms within an English Country House setting. It delivers traditional Persian tribal craftsmanship ready for placement on various floor surfaces.

FAQs

Afshar rugs are woven by the Turkic Afshar tribe, historically located in south-eastern Iran, primarily around the Kerman province. These weavers are celebrated for blending nomadic geometric traditions with floral influences inspired by urban Persian workshops.

These carpets are hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun wool pile on a foundation of wool or cotton warps and wefts, dyed with natural plant and mineral extracts.

Authentic Afshar pieces generally feature a soft, pliable handle, subtle variations in dye tones known as abrash, symmetrical or asymmetrical hand-tied knots, and recurring motifs such as stylized flower bouquets or geometric medallions.

A tribal rug brings organic pattern and grounding colour to minimal interiors, functioning effectively beneath a coffee table, in an entryway, or layered over neutral flatweave flooring.

Regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar removes surface dust, while immediate spot cleaning with cold water prevents stain setting. Professional specialist rug cleaning is recommended every few years to maintain fibre integrity.
