An 18th century Chippendale-period mahogany press cupboard, the base of seven oak-lined drawers with the original brass handles, exquisite carved egg and dart moulding to the lower base, standing on bracket feet.
The architectural breakfront top has four fielded panelled doors, the two central doors opening to reveal four red-washed pine trays, the two outer doors opening to adjustable shelves, surrounded by an exquisitely carved lower moulding, the cornice and broken pediment having dental moulding.
The whole cupboard has a wonderful rich patina, the backboards and base are covered with red wash.
This 18th century mahogany press cupboard shows all the attributes of being made by a top cabinet maker, possibly by the Thomas Chippendale workshop.
English, circa 1755.
