Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dish rings, frequently referred to as potato rings, originated in 18th-century Ireland as decorative functional stands. They were positioned on dining tables to support hot serving bowls or wooden potato dishes, protecting polished tabletop surfaces from heat scorching.

Traditional dish rings are crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as piercing, chasing, and repousse metalworking. They feature a spool-like cylindrical shape and are commonly fitted with a hand-blown cobalt blue glass liner to contrast with the openwork metal.

Authentic sterling silver dish rings feature official hallmark stamps indicating the purity mark, makers mark, assay office location, and date letter. Original period items display hand-pierced motifs, hand-hammered interior marks, and slight irregularities in the silver and glass composition.

A silver dish ring can be styled as a focal centrepiece on a dining table, sideboard, or coffee table. It functions effectively as a decorative vessel for fruit, potpourri, or as an isolated accent piece within a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

Clean the silver structure gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, taking care not to clog delicate pierced details. Wash the glass liner separately in warm soapy water, drying it thoroughly before replacing it inside the metal ring.
