Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The upper section comprises a moulded cornice above two glazed doors opening to a shelved interior, while the base contains two drawers with brass pulls, two panelled cupboard doors, and a plinth base. Later hand sign-written trade lettering details deliveries, shipping, and destinations such as London, Liverpool, Bristol, the Americas, India, and the Orient across the glass doors and lower timber panels. The cabinet measures 230 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, with a working height of 94 cm. Placed in a home, this piece provides functional storage and display space for books or collections within a living room, study, or hallway.

FAQs

Popularised during the late Victorian era, a glazed bookcase cabinet combines a glass-fronted upper section for displaying books or objects with a solid lower cupboard for concealed storage. These pieces were crafted for domestic studies, commercial offices, and trade premises.

These cabinets were typically constructed using solid walnut or walnut veneers over pine frameworks, featuring hand-dovetailed drawers, glass panes, and brass hardware such as drop handles and lever locks.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, natural aged patina on the walnut timber, period-correct brass fittings, and structural signs of historical wear on drawer runners and cabinet backs.

A glazed cabinet introduces rich historic texture to modern living rooms or home offices, serving as a focal point when filled with curated ceramics, books, or decorative objects against neutral walls.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish along the wood grain annually. Keep the unit away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent movement in the timber.
