Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scottish Regency bookcases from the 19th century often feature restrained classical proportions, straight cornices, and decorative doors. Wire lattice or brass grilles backed with fabric were frequently utilised instead of clear glass to protect book collections from light exposure while adding subtle texture.

These cabinets were typically constructed from pine, mahogany, or oak, which was then painted or ebonised. The door inserts generally incorporate hand-woven brass or iron wire lattice, lined behind with pleated silk, cotton, or damask fabric.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-planed backboards, and natural age-related wear to the paintwork, particularly around handles and base mouldings. Wire lattice inserts will typically exhibit irregular hand-drawn wire and light surface oxidisation rather than modern uniform plating.

Positioning a matching pair symmetrically on either side of a fireplace, doorway, or central artwork creates strong architectural balance. Their dark painted finish grounds bright spaces, while the textured wire and fabric panels provide depth without revealing interior clutter.

Clean painted wood using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners that may strip historic paint layers. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently clean dust from the brass wire lattice, and keep the piece away from damp conditions or direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading.
