Japanese Satsuma Vase Depicting 7 Lucky Gods Signed Hozan

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this unusual fine quality Meiji period 1868-1912 Satsuma vase artist signed by Hozan, the squat globular vase is predominately painted with a continuous central band depicting the seven Gods of good fortune in various pursuits ,one of the more comical subjects depicts Ebisu struggling with a huge carp as Daikoku looks on, by contrast there is a tranquil subject as Jurojin paints a large scroll with help from Fukurokuju , his deer and manchurian crane also in the backdrop, the main central panel framed with bands of chrysanthemum between finely painted floral borders, the rim is nicely gilded and the artist has signed in a seal to the underside  Dai Nihon Satsuma yaki Hozan tsukuru , this translates to read - Satsuma vase made by Hozan in great Japan , an ideal addition to your Satsuma cabinet collection or as a special gift for a loved one .
