This antique painted pine box from the mid-1800s is styled in traditional folk art with a rustic farmhouse design vibe. The exterior has a warm brown finish complemented by yellow and brown floral cartouches, a central diamond panel, and painted panels, all applied over pine timber with a dark painted interior. Visible details include a metal lock with a large key, moulded framing around the panels, diagonal stripes on the overhanging lid edge, and a scalloped apron with rectangular dark panels at the lower base. The box measures 49.5 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 57 cm deep. Practical for everyday storage, this piece sits well in a bedroom at the foot of a bed for linens, or functions as a decorative storage chest in a hallway, living room, or utility space. The sturdy wooden construction provides a reliable surface on top while keeping stored items enclosed securely inside.

A folk art painted pine coffer is a traditional timber storage chest decorated with hand-painted regional motifs, decorative cartouches, or geometric borders. Historically crafted throughout rural Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, these pieces were frequently created as marriage chests or dowry boxes.

These chests were predominantly constructed from softwoods such as pine or fir, using hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joinery. Decorators applied milk paint or oil-based pigments directly to the wood, often finishing with a wax or varnish layer to protect the painted details.

Authentic pieces exhibit uneven paint wear consistent with natural handling, particularly around edges, lockplates, and handles. Inspecting the interior and back for hand-sawn timber marks, original iron hardware, and natural timber shrinkage further confirms period age.

A painted pine trunk functions effectively as a focal coffee table, hallway bench, or foot-of-bed storage unit. Its graphic painted motifs offer a grounding, textural contrast alongside contemporary upholstered furniture and neutral wall palettes.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth without harsh liquid cleaners. To preserve original paintwork, avoid direct sunlight and maintain stable humidity levels, applying a clear beeswax polish sparingly over unpainted or sealed timber areas.
