This Victorian Arts and Crafts oil lamp stands 73.5 cm high. It combines a warm brass and copper construction with a translucent, opalescent glass shade and a central clear glass chimney. The piece features a polished reservoir, a burner inscribed with the text TRADE MARK IN LUX WAY alongside a sun emblem, and a scrolled tripod base with sweeping, curved feet resting on a tabletop. The hardware includes two adjustment knobs on the burner. Positioned on a sideboard top, this lamp suits a gentleman's library or a period study setting. The mixed-metal finish and organic, flowing lines of the base anchor the lighting piece visually, while the frilled rim of the shade diffuses light downwards for task or accent illumination.

Arts and Crafts lighting emerged in the late nineteenth century as a reaction against mass production, emphasising visible craftsmanship and functional form. Pieces typically feature hand-hammered metals such as copper and brass, organic silhouettes, and mouth-blown glass components.

Period oil lamps were primarily constructed using cast or spun brass, wrought copper, and iron for the base and reservoir. The lighting elements feature clear glass chimneys and decorative shades made from frosted, etched, or opalescent glass.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-finishing, such as visible rivets, hammered textures, or subtle variations in the metalwork. Look for period-correct burner mechanisms stamped with historical maker marks, alongside original heavy-gauge brass or copper construction.

An antique oil lamp serves as a statement decorative accent on a wooden sideboard, console table, or library desk. Pair it with contemporary minimalist decor or dark wood tones to create a balanced contrast between historical metalwork and modern interiors.

Dust metal surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent buildup. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip natural patina, and clean glass shades gently using warm water and mild soap after removing them from the frame.
