Description

Size: 7ft 9in x 3ft 1in (235 x 94cm).

Antique Eastern Anatolian Kurdish Yuruk long rug with three medallion design.

Circa 1900.

An good example of a Yuruk long rug, with a classic design of three linked medallions and traditional colour palette. The apricot / orange used in the border is traditional for this region of Eastern Anatolia, the medallions have a very clear dye quality. The rug retains the original decorated end finishes at both ends. The side bindings are very finely done in a style unique to the Yuruk.

Good condition with even wear and medium pile. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

Hand washed and ready for use or display.

Yuruk rugs are hand-woven tribal textiles created by nomadic Anatolian weavers in Turkey, characterised by bold geometric motifs, rich natural dyes, and durable hand-knotted wool construction.

These carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the warp, dyed with natural plant-based and mineral colourants.

Authentic pieces feature hand-knotted weaves, slight variations in shade known as abrash, tribal geometric motifs such as stepped medallions, and natural wool fringe finishings.

Long tribal rugs function effectively as hallway runners, placed alongside timber flooring, or layered over neutral base carpets in eclectic and traditional interiors.
