Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century silver chest, often designed in the style of a mule chest or coffer, was constructed to store valuable household silver, linens, or domestic items securely. Featuring heavy brass side handles for movement and lockable compartments, these chests were practical and functional storage solutions in Georgian homes.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from dense Cuban mahogany or native English hard timber chosen for stability and strength. Construction utilised hand-cut dovetail joinery, solid cast brass carrying handles, brass keyhole escutcheons, and sturdy bracket feet designed to carry heavy internal weight.

Authentic Georgian coffers feature hand-sawn timber marks, original cast brass hardware showing subtle manufacturing variations, and hand-cut dovetails on internal drawer joints. Internal hinges and ironwork often demonstrate historical hand-forged characteristics and natural patination.

A Georgian mahogany chest serves as a functional anchor when positioned at the foot of a bed, within an entryway, or alongside modern seating arrangements. Combining dark timber with neutral upholstery, contemporary artwork, or minimalist ceramics creates a balanced interior contrast.

Position the chest away from direct radiators and sunlight to protect the wood from drying or splitting. Maintain the timber finish by applying a small amount of beeswax polish annually, buffing gently along the natural grain with a lint-free cotton cloth.
